Contemporary dance
Contemporary dance emerged as a form of “revolution” against the strict principles of ballet.
Today it has become a top genre in the world of dance. Contemporary dance dancers use dance to express their inner feelings, often to get closer to their inner self.
The history of Contemporary Dance began in the late 1920s in America as a reaction. Contemporary or modern dance rejected the rules imposed by ballet on the technical performance of the steps, considering it to be contrary to human nature.
We approach contemporary dance as a means of expression and freedom and is based on the natural movements of the body, with special emphasis on muscle contraction and relaxation.
Contemporary dancers reject the limitations imposed by classical ballet and, instead, favor movements that derive from their inner emotions.
Dance can express all kinds of emotions.
Contemporary dance, however, is based on technique and follows a specific structure.
In our School we deal with the 2 basic systems of contemporary dance, Limon & Release.
Modern Beginner (Modern from the Beginning)
This dance strengthens the body and increases flexibility. Some of its basic principles are contraction, alignment, breathing, gravity, falling, release, balance and imbalance, tension and relaxation, contrast and emotion.
In this class we start to learn the technique through physical movement and encourage the improvisation and liberation of every beginner dancer.
Contemporary.
Dance is a manifestation of expression and there is no emotion that cannot be expressed through dance. It can express joy, happiness, sadness, anger, passion, disappointment, and every aspect of human life.
Our goal is for students to get to know the basic principles and techniques of contemporary dance but also to become aware and develop their imagination and expressiveness through the same design. We focus on loving their bodies and learning to move from their soul.
Modern Advanced (Release Plus)
Contemporary dance nowadays has become a lesson that many dancers have evolved their technique and need something more. In this lesson we deal with continuous flow, intricate passages from the floor, acrobatic movements and greater danceability. The department is aimed at advanced adults or candidates for the entrance exams of the Ministry of Culture.
